Governor Hopkins Travels to Hope Valley
Governor Stephen Hopkins visited the fourth graders in Hope Valley. Born in 1707 in Pawtuxet Village, he grew up in Scituate, and he traveled by horseback to Hope Valley. Two reporters from the Providence Gazette newspaper, Mistress Amanda and Mistress Kendra, asked many questions. Audience members listened intently and shared their ideas and thoughts with the Governor. All in attendance vowed to join the Governor in his quest for Independence from Great Britain and signed the Declaration too! Mr. & Mrs. Prescott, from the Hopkinton Historical Association, were also able to join us too.
